Which to-do apps let you speak a task? Voice input in 13 iPhone apps

"Can I add a task by voice?" has three different answers, and most listings blur them. Some apps put a microphone inside the app. Some hand the job to Siri. And every app with a text field accepts the dictation key on the iOS keyboard, a feature of iOS rather than of the app. This page sorts 13 apps by what their developers describe; our comparison of voice-first apps goes deeper on the ones where voice is the main way in.

Disclosure: VoiceToDoList.com is published by Proseca, the maker of Vozly. The feature notes below are our reading of each app's own App Store listing, the developer's text, read on October 15, 2026; ratings, versions and prices come from the App Store and are dated. How we work.

How to read the table: a mark means the developer describes the feature in the listing. "Not mentioned" means the listing is silent, which is not the same as "no". The keyboard's dictation key earns no mark: it works in all 13 apps.

App Store data, US storefront, verified October 13, 2026. “Free” apps may sell subscriptions or upgrades inside the app. Ratings and prices change; the App Store listing is the source of truth.

Three kinds of voice input

An in-app microphone. You touch a button in the app and speak; the app transcribes and saves. Most apps in the table describe this and differ in what happens next: keeping your words and recording as they are (Vozly), parsing them into dated tasks (Todoist, Voice Do) or turning them into notes (Brain Dump, Google Keep).

Siri. You say "remind me to…" and Siri creates the item inside the app. Siri does the listening and the interpreting, including the time you say, in Siri's phrasing. TickTick, Apple Reminders and Things 3 describe this route.

The dictation key. The microphone on the iOS keyboard types into any text field in every app on this page. It says nothing about the app, so we do not count it.

App by app, from the listings

Vozly

Hold the microphone, speak, release, and the text is saved as a to-do, a note, a diary entry or a dream, with the recording kept beside it. On iOS 18 and later a Control Center control starts a recording directly. Vozly does not parse dates or priorities from speech; you set a deadline by hand afterwards, and it then sends a notification at that time. No Android version, no cloud sync. It is free for your first 10 items; from the tenth item on Vozly keeps recording but reminds you of Pro once per session. Vozly Pro removes that reminder; it adds no other feature.

Todoist

Todoist (4.8★ (129,744 ratings)) describes two routes. Ramble, in the app, takes tasks in natural language and, according to the listing, files them into the right projects with the right due dates. Keeping the audio is not mentioned. The full head-to-head is on our Todoist alternative page.

TickTick

TickTick (4.9★ (46,349 ratings)) lists Siri as its voice route. No in-app microphone and no time recognition from speech are described, so any time you say is handled by Siri, not by TickTick.

Microsoft To Do

Microsoft To Do (4.7★ (268,510 ratings)) is the one app here whose listing does not mention voice in any form; what you get is the dictation key. The listing leads with Microsoft 365 sync and shared lists.

Any.do

Any.do (4.6★ (50,538 ratings)) says it added voice entry so you can speak a reminder and have it added to your list. Whether a spoken time becomes a due date, and whether the recording is kept, is not said.

Apple Reminders

Apple Reminders (4.8★ (1,032,507 ratings)), free with every iPhone, names Siri, Control Center and the Action Button as the quick ways to create a reminder; its natural-language support is for typed phrases. Siri interprets what you say; an in-app microphone or a kept recording is not mentioned.

Google Keep

Google Keep (4.6★ (29,001 ratings)) records a voice memo, transcribes it automatically and keeps the audio with the note. It is a notes app with checklists: nothing in its listing turns a spoken sentence into a dated task. For journaling by voice, see our voice journal guide.

Things 3

Things 3 (4.8★ (28,007 ratings), $9.99 on the App Store) creates to-dos through Siri and, on Apple Watch, lets you dictate new ones, per its listing, which describes no in-app microphone on the iPhone and no kept audio. More on our Things 3 alternative page.

Voice Do

Voice Do (no ratings yet on the US App Store as of October 13, 2026) is built around an in-app microphone and claims parsing: a sentence such as "call Sam tomorrow at 2pm" becomes a task with the time, date and a label. Its subscriptions are sold inside the app; see the listing.

Aaka

Aaka (4.6★ (77 ratings)) takes dictated tasks and, per its listing, has AI group and format them into a list. It promises "smart reminders" without saying whether they come from your speech. Last updated Dec 16, 2025.

AI To-Do List

AI To-Do List (4.7★ (68 ratings)), To-Do Speak AI in its own text, does what the name says: tap the microphone, speak your tasks, get a list you can check off. Dates from speech and audio kept are not mentioned.

TaskTalk

TaskTalk (no ratings yet on the US App Store as of October 13, 2026) adds tasks by speaking and, according to its listing, prioritizes them automatically; dates from speech are not mentioned. The listing includes one free task entry; the rest needs a subscription.

Brain Dump

Brain Dump (4.5★ (38 ratings)) is a voice-first notes app: tap record, speak, and it turns what you said into structured notes. Two things in its listing stand out: on-device transcription that works offline once a model is downloaded, and optional iCloud sync, which Vozly lacks. Tasks and dates are not its subject.

What this means when you choose

If you want to speak a sentence and have the date set for you, the listings that promise it are Todoist (Ramble) and Voice Do, plus any app that goes through Siri. If you want your own words and your own voice kept, the listings that say so are Vozly and Google Keep. If you only want to type less, the dictation key already works everywhere.

Try Vozly, free to download

Hold the microphone and speak. Tasks, notes, diary and dream journal in one app, with the recording kept.

Questions readers ask

Does the keyboard's dictation key count as voice input? ↓
It works, but it is a feature of iOS, not of the app: you still open the app, reach the right list and tap the field first. This page counts only the voice input a developer describes.
Which apps turn "tomorrow at 2pm" into a due date? ↓
Todoist (Ramble) and Voice Do describe it in their listings; apps that go through Siri, such as TickTick, Apple Reminders and Things 3, get the time from Siri. Vozly saves the sentence as you said it; you set the deadline by hand afterwards.
Which apps keep the recording? ↓
Vozly keeps the original audio with every item, and Google Keep stores a voice memo as an audio note with its transcription. The other listings do not mention it, and silence is not a "no".
